Week 2 Term 1 (Class Newsletter)

Week 2 Term 1

The children were fantastic last week.  They attended their first assembly and they were amazing, sitting quietly and watching the seniors as they shared school news, birthdays and awards.  The children are learning lots of different routines and transitions and are taking it in their stride.

Children started class prayer this week.  When the children arrive in the morning they can do indoor activities set out on the table then the circle song will be played.  They will form a circle where they will participate in class prayer.  This will be a big routine change for the children but hopefully in a few days it becomes second nature and a part of our daily school routine.  Once the children are settling the routine, parents may join us for prayer in the mornings (hopefully next week.)

Our classroom focus this term is on Getting to know ourselves and each other.  We do this through play base activities which focus on;
Social and personal learning from the Early years curriculum.

Sustaining relationships
  • Acknowledging and negotiating rights, roles and responsibilities in a range of contexts
  • Co-operating with others in social situations
Understanding Diversity
  • By investigating and communicating positively about social and cultural practices.  We are all unique
Personal Learning
  • Children build a positive sense of self by developing a sense of personal identity.

We also incorporate “Program Achieve-You Can do It Program”.  This program’s main purpose is identifying the social and emotional capabilities that all young people need to acquire in order to be successful in school, experience wellbeing, and have positive relationships including making contributions to others and the community (good citizenship).

We focus on 5 key foundations (areas)
  1. Confidence
  2. Persistence
  3. Organisation
  4. Getting Along
  5. Resilience

In Prep we use song, puppets and a range of fun hands on activities to explore these key foundations.  This term we will focus of Getting Along.

The puppets name is Gabby Get Along
You will see her around in our classroom.
